Coffee Cozy Pattern

Happy December! The weather doesn’t scream iced coffee, but luckily with this simple crochet cozy pattern, your hands can stay warm and dry regardless of the season. This pattern is seriously so quick (think 30 minutes or less) and the perfect gift. Let’s begin!

Materials:

  • 6mm crochet hook

  • any “outdoor” or “waterproof” yarn (I used Yarnspirations Bernat Maker Home Dec)

Notes:

  • This yarn is considered bulky, but I have found that the 6 mm hook still works best. Feel free to use an 8 mm hook to get a looser, more relaxed stitch. I like the snugness the 6 mm provides.

  • This project does not require much yardage at all. Less than 20 yards will suffice and several cozies can be made from one skein (so super efficient and economically practical!).

Abbreviations:

  • hdc - half double crochet

  • dc - double crochet

  • sl st - slip stitch

  • ch - chain

Pattern:

  1. To begin, form a magic circle and chain 1

  2. Crochet 6 hdc into magic circle and pull tight. Sl st into “chain 1” space (6)

  3. Chain 1, 2 hdc in each stitch. Sl st to “chain 1” space (12)

  4. Chain 1, *2 hdc, 1 hdc*, repeat *_* for whole round. Sl st to “chain 1” space (18)

  5. Chain 1, *2hdc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc*, repeat *_* for entire round. Sl st to “chain 1” space (24)

  6. Chain 2, dc in each stitch. Sl st to second stitch of “chain 2” space (24)

  7. Repeat Step 6 five more times, for a total of 6 rows of dc

  8. Chain 2, *skip 1, 1 dc in next stitch, cross over to skipped stitch and dc, ch 1* (this technique causes an “x” or “criss cross” effect). Repeat *_* for entire round, sl st to second stitch of “chain 2” space (24)

  9. Chain 1, hdc entire round. Sl st to “chain 1” space (24)

Your cozy is done! If you’d like to add some scallops like I did, keep following the pattern below:

Scallops pattern:

  • After completing Step 9, skip 1 stitch, then dc into next stitch 3 times. Skip one stitch and sl st into next stitch.

  • Cut and weave in all ends

You’ve officially crocheted a cozy! Remember to tag @chainandstitch if you post any pictures! Happy crocheting!
